Welcome to my first Shavua Shorts post.

Shavua is the Hebrew word meaning ‘week’. This is where I’ll list my writing progress for the week and sometimes also what I’ve read and am reading, a picture, or link too.

Today, I also needed to take time to reflect since it is September 11th. In New York, 19 years ago today (at about 10:30am), I left a message on my mother’s answering machine to say goodbye and to make sure she let my infant son know much I loved him. My reflections, Sorting Through Old Things, was published in The Jewish Press in 2003. May the memory of all the victims be for a blessing.

As for the rest of my week, I managed to:

  • Edit two more chapters of my MG Historical Fiction that I’ve been working on with my new critique partner.
  • Edit a picture book and submitted it to my SBWI critique group which now meets over Zoom.
  • Submit a creative nonfiction piece to Modern Love that I wrote a couple of weeks ago. This is definitely a long shot, but a piece that I am determined to find a home for eventually.
  • Wrote and submit another creative nonfiction piece. It’s a ghost story (sort of).
  • Move Book Reviews into a separate menu on my blog and hope to be better about highlighting more of the books that I’ve enjoyed there.
